Basic Men's Beanie Pattern

Basic Men's Beanie

You will need: Yarn size 5 Bulky, 16" circular knitting needles number 9 and 10 1/2, and double point knitting needle set number 10 1/2 (set of 5 needles), and one marker large enough to fit a 10 1/2 needle.

Check your gauge and adjust needle sizes if necessary. Using the 10 1/2 needles in stockinette stitch you need 13 stitches in 4 inches.

Using number 9 circular needles cast on  60 stitches. Join for working in the round, being careful not to twist stitches. Work in Knit (K) 2 Purl (P) 2 ribbing for 5 rounds, placing marker at beginning stitch.

Knitting the next round onto the number 10 1/2 circular needles, knitting all stitches. (Stockinette stitch). Work even until hat measures 6 inches from cast on edge.

Begin shaping crown, changing to number 10 1/2 double point needles when too few stitches remain.

Next row, work even knitting all stitches.
